did this book and recording come to be?

By Michael D. Purvis
In
April of 2003, I received a wonderful e-mail through Yahoo
Groups from Michael Levy. The e-mail concerned a CD, which
I mistakenly thought was finished, and ready to be sent
out into the world. I was so impressed with the concept
for the CD that I sent Michael an e-mail in return, asking
for a sample CD, and offering to do a review of the recording.
To
my surprise, I received an e-mail back from Michael stating
that this CD was still in the conceptual stages. Being the
delightfully spontaneous soul that he is, Michael suggested
I might like to work on the idea with him- as a joint project.
Then,
as synchronistic things are wont to happen, we had several
e-mail exchanges and a wonderful, spontaneous, spirit-filled
conversation over the telephone. The long and short of it
is, Michael suggested I might simply take the concept and
run with it, and see what I could do with it. So, being
the spontaneous soul that I am, I did!
I
began looking at Michael's work and my own, and found there
were many synchronicities, and that much of our writings
fit together rather nicely. Further, they fit in with the
concept for the recording quite well too.
As
I worked on the project, it became apparent that the idea
wanted to be a book first, so here it is. Michael and I
hope this book will be a blessing to you. Please read the
forward of this book (next page) so you can get a good idea
of the purpose of this publication.
Also,
we hope you will want to hear the accompanying recording,
which is a useful and important enhancement to this book,
since the focus of the work, as our title suggests, is:
The Sounds of Your Life. We think you will want to hear
the beautiful sounds and music which this recording offers.
One
of the nicest ways to use this tool is to have the book
in front of you while you listen to the recording. Having
both the visual and the auditory makes for a complete and
quite fulfilling experience. You might do this a little
each day as you have your prayer or meditation time- or
all in one sitting. You may want to read and listen just
for enjoyment. Let it be as you wish.
Or,
if you are busy in your life, listen to the recording or
read the book as you are able.
If you only have five or ten minutes here or there, put
the book or recording where you will notice it, and read
or listen a little at a time. Let it sink into your consciousness
when you are able, and at the time or times which feel right.
Michael
and I hope you will use and integrate into your life whatever
you find in our book/recording which resonates with you
at this particular point in your life's journey. We also
hope this publication will be a springboard for you to do
some noticing and listening of your own in your lives, and
that it will encourage your intuition and creativity.

Spirit to guide you in the reading and integrating of the
ideas of this book. You will know just how and when to read
it, and how the ideas within it might help you.

Foreword
What
is the purpose of this book and accompanying recording?
Dear
reader or listener,
Michael
and I want to take you on a journey of the soul, to encourage
you to quiet your mind, reduce distractions, and open you
heart and soul to the music of your life- which is the music
of God, in you and in the world!
For
you are not separate form God or your brothers and sisters
in the world, and tuning into the wonderful sounds of your
life, the very music of your soul will help you to see this,
thus opening you to infinite possibility.
To
see and hear the "song of God" in all things,
in all aspects of your life, to know that we are connected
to each other and not separate from God is a great gift!
And, connecting to the sounds of your life, the music of
your life, the earth, and your soul will help you to do
this!
To
quiet our minds and listen to the music of love and connectedness
in and all around us opens us to spontaneity, intuition,
synchronicity, healing, enjoyment and creation.
May
you find your authentic self/soul through learning to listen
to the sounds of your life. May you hear your own song,
which is singing in harmony with all others, with all the
souls of the earth, who in turn are singing their own songs,
unique, yet connected, in harmony.

Poem and a Fable
Here
is a fable by Michael Purvis and a poem by Michael Levy
to start things off. These two works will introduce the
themes of "Silence" and "Quiet," and
give us an idea how beneficial these states can be. As well,
they will lead us toward exploring the sounds of our lives,
which as the title of this publication suggests, is a very
good thing to do!
Myth: The Story of Skin
By Michael D. Purvis
once
Skin decided to sit very still in the grass
He
let Thought think that it had caused this lack of motion
(but really it was Skin!)
Skin
Skin
was so tired of containing them all:
Bones dancing, Teeth grinding, Lungs breathing
and particularly Heart-
always beating and beating
always feeling and sensing and hurting so
and
all of them
all contained within Skin
Skin
always
obeying, going where told
hot and cold, dry and wet and rough
on and on-
until
one day
Skin just sat-
said "enough!"
enough
and
so, they all sat
Skin sent them a message secretly
a coded, subliminal message through pores and nerves
he let them think it was theirs, their idea to do this
Mind
said:
"let us sit
sit and be quiet and listen!"
Heart
said:
"let us sit sit sit sit sit "
Bones
said the best:
"let us sit and just be,
and see what's in our center"
and
they were all pleased with themselves
(and
Skin enjoyed it so)
for
once, he just sat
no orders were given
they were all
quiet
Skin
smiled and opened his million eyes
the breeze blew gently, just for Skin
Sun warmed him
Grass caressed
And Earth sang Skin a lullaby
and
for once
he was happy
in
fact he didn't even complain
when Bones sat up suddenly
Heart beat
and Feet danced
running down the dirt road
carrying Skin along once again-
for
in that blessed moment of silence, of just being
Skin made room for one more inside
Skin made room for Spirit
And
things would never be the same

THE
BLISSFUL SILENCE
In
the silence of my thoughtless mind,
I leave the pettiness of condition behind,
I feel the exaltation of God's kiss,
I truly am in a wondrous divine bliss.
In
my peaceful harmony I am immersed,
floating weightless throughout the universe,
I feel the comfort of a glowing ember,
in a timeless world, an ecstasy to remember.
One
on one, God as God in a field of gold,
an endless flowing stream, never feeling old,
worth more than all the treasure can bestow,
I rise up in an everlasting eternal glow.
In
this state of mind, beauty is all I find,
this is the Cosmos gift for all man kind,
it's time to light the torch, don't be frightened,
in Silent Meditation, you will be enlightened.
